This full-page feature in The Improper Bostonian was a big (and very pleasant) surprise. We had no idea the photograph would be printed so large. Fortunately Don styled this group of necklaces so nicely they were ready for a super close-up.

Design Time

It is that time again. Time for new designs, new inspiration, new samples, new ideas, new materials to all come together in a brand-spanking-new collection. We would love to take an inspirational trip to a faraway land via the company jet except that, in true PATCH NYC fashion, the company jet would be more like a company hot air balloon so we wouldn’t get very far. No worries. We have a studio loaded with wonderful books, shelves bursting with fabrics, boxes and bins bulging with beads…we will save that inspirational trip for later. Now, it is time to work.

Guess the kitty cat is out of the bag. Yep, the rumors are true. We’ve opened a PATCH NYC shop here in Boston. The space is itsy bitsy and tucked in the back of a brick lined courtyard in the South End so it is off the beaten track….a wee little X mark on a treasure map. The space wasn’t so magical to start with as it was a wood workers shop….filled floor to ceiling with tools, scraps of wood, a tangle of electric cords, work benches…the whole lot covered with a thick layer of saw dust. We spent several weeks and some very late nights cleaning, building, painting and slowly (painfully so) the space began to look less like a workroom and more like a shop. During this process, we talked a lot about stores that we like, retail spaces that we’ve loved, inspiration that we’ve seen which, of course, included the work of Eugene Atget specifically his incredible images of shops in Paris from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. If our new space can muster even the tiniest bit of magic like M. Atget’s photographs, then we will be two very happy shop keepers.

A Visit from Nathalie Lete

Fell off the blog-post-wagon yet again so apologies first before we continue: Sorry bout that! Anyhoo, this summer has been a busy one and we have some big news to report but that will have to wait a bit because we want to start with a highlight of the season: a visit from Nathalie Lete! Nathalie was in New York to create a painting in the window at Anthropologie’s store on Fifth Avenue and we convinced her to take a few days to visit us up here in Boston. We’ve been to Nathalie’s home and studio in Paris numerous times so it was a real treat to return the favor and host her here Chez PATCH NYC. We enjoyed some delicious meals, a lot of great conversation and our favorite flea market where Nathalie picked up a bounty of American souvenirs. Here she is in her window at Anthropologie. In todays issue of The New York Times, there is an article about fashion designer Anna Sui shopping for home furnishings with butterfly motifs and two of the items she chooses are from the PATCH NYC for West Elm collection! There is a really nice quote as well! Check out the full article here. By the way, this photo has absolutely nothing to do with the article although it does feature Anna Sui’s AW09 collection. We just think it’s a great image.

Our good friend Ryan spotted our PATCH NYC for Anthropologie wallpaper in a house tour on Apartment Therapy and was nice enough to send us the link. We love seeing how people incorporate PATCH NYC home pieces into their decor because it is always interesting to see how different people decorate and this apartment in a converted industrial garage was really great to (virtually) snoop around.
