Rooms We Love II
For the fall issue of BOSTON HOME Magazine I was invited to style the More or Less feature which involves decorating a room twice: once with an unlimited budget (see above) then again in a similar style but for much, much less (see below). I decided to decorate a men’s study because I wanted to work on something dark, warm and cozy for the season (of course my idea of ‘masculine’ decor goes beyond wood panelling and includes comfy seating, books, textiles and loads of great art). The editor gave me complete creative freedom so it was a great project to work on although it was quite a challenge finding two versions of every item. The space was a beautiful empty brownstone on Beacon Hill with amazing views from a rooftop deck and a ground floor kitchen with a center island as big as most NYC studios. On the day of the shoot I arrived with all the accessories and stacks of art and was told that I couldn’t put any nails into the wood panelling (!) Cue panic attack here. Fortunately, the photographer’s assistant suggested some temporary hooks from the hardware store and now I am forever indepted to the crafty inventors at 3M. I’m really pleased with the final pictures and, surprisingly, I like the Less version just as much as the More. It was an added bonus to use one of Don’s new colorful chevron artworks and plenty of PATCH NYC pieces in my decor but the best part was incorporating an old Avon perfume bottle on top of a vintage candle stick as a tabletop sculpture in the Less version (total price $1.25). You can check out the rest of the credit information here.
