One of the most amazing shops we have had the pleasure of visiting is Astier de Villatte at 173 rue Saint-Honore in Paris. Furnished with beautifully worn fixtures, the shop is a showcase for the namesake collection of handmade terracotta tableware inspired by 18th and 19th century designs and glazed in a signature milky finish.
On every visit to Astier de Villate we have been inspired by the juxtaposition of the vintage setting with the many varied pieces of tableware; the combination of classically inspired contemporary ceramics presented in creamy glazed perfection against the beautiful worn patina of fixtures original to the space.
It is a truly exceptional shop so we were thrilled when the owners invited Don to show his ink drawings in a solo exhibition during spring/summer 08 fashion week. Don's intricate black line drawings were displayed throughout the multi room shop with each slightly weathered vintage frame seeming right at home in the space.
In true Parisian style, the owners of Astier de Villatte celebrated the opening of Don's exhibition with a wonderfully packed party that spilled out onto rue Saint-Honore. The shop was filled with delicious hors d’ouevres, special cocktails, tasty desserts, eclectic music and a throng of chic people so beautiful they almost outshone the art.
